The Assistant/Veterinary Surgeon is responsible for field implementation of the project in association
with the reporting manager and other project team members on all aspects that include technical,
administrative and financial requirements.
Assistant/Veterinary Surgeon – Terai Tiger Project, works under the supervision of the (PH)
administratively and under Division Head, Wild Rescue focusing on veterinary aspects of Human-
Carnivore Conflict Mitigation and large carnivore conservation in Uttar Pradesh.
General Requirements
Masters in Veterinary Science (Medicine, Surgery) and registered practitioner with
the Veterinary Council of India.
Minimum one years of experience working in field and possess good knowledge of
attending wildlife emergencies and treatments.
Patient listener with communities during conflict situations, team builder and
motivator.
Proficient in reading and writing Hindi and English.
The person should possess knowledge of driving two -wheeler with a valid license.
Responsibilities:
The AM/Veterinary Surgeon – Terai Tiger Project has overall responsibility for the following major
tasks for Carnivore Conflict Mitigation Project in Uttar Pradesh-
A) Ensure all human-wildlife conflict cases reported in U.P. are attended on time.
B) Provide veterinary support for rescue operations, wildlife emergencies, disease investigation and
control measures around protected areas.
C) Use “up to date” veterinary and animal husbandry skills for stabilization and treatment of
injured or distressed wildlife, and transfer animals that require special and protracted care to a
temporary rescue station established in the field
D) Address Human-carnivore and human-elephant conflict in and around Protected Areas in U.P.
and look for appropriate placement options for the displaced animals.
E) Provide wildlife health support to the PAs in U.P by attending to wildlife mortalities, investigate
wildlife deaths and epidemics till for final diagnosis, and prescribe/implement appropriate
disease control and preventive measures
F) Maintains records of all rescue operations in prescribed format. This would also include
maintaining online rescue software as well as registers of treatment, husbandry, anaesthesia,
surgery and laboratory investigations.
G) Additionally, responsible for all field level governmental and partner liaisons at appropriate
levels for the project and local public relation needs, with the PI
H) Responsible for maintenance of all assets of the organization at Dudhwa- Pilibhit Tiger Reserve
Landscape, both moveable and immoveable
I) Attend monthly meetings, send cash flows, report, photographs, accounts, backups,
HR and other documents on time
J) Responsible for all field reports, photographic documentation, submission of data sheets etc as
per the requirements of the PH/DH
K) Responsible for acting as the on-site representative of WTI (at particular level) and to ensure
that the image of WTI as a conservation action organization operating in the field is maintained
at all times
