Job Description
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Head of Creative Operations, the Head of TD is responsible for day-to-day operations and long-term strategic management of the TD team. The Head of TD works closely with the VFX/CG Supervisors, show creative leadership (eg Asset Supervisors, 2D Supervisors) and HOD’s to identify workflows and tools and to assess technical options.
Primary Responsibilities:
Managing the team:
Manage the training and integration of new TD into the existing team in accordance with the global needs of the business
Recruiting, cast and assign appropriate TD to the various projects
Nurture technical ability, while ensuring balanced personal and professional development
Assess performance of the team through appraisals (formal as well as informal), and manage career growth and promotions within the wider considerations of the company
Strategy and working standards:
Have a compelling strategy and vision for the future of the department
Keep up to date with industry developments and tools
Ensure the department remains relevant in an ever changing global industry
Work together with the Head of Creative Operations to ensure that Shows maintain a consistent workflow, pipeline and toolset that directly correspond to the established working practices across the company.
Propose and oversee the development of new tools, workflows or techniques as required for successful and efficient delivery of shows
Monitor workflow and techniques used in the team. Measure and report on issues and opportunities within agreed formats and timescales.
Ensure that the quality of work remains to the high standards of our studios.
Have a compelling strategy and vision for the future of the department
Planning, maintenance and delivery:
Define broad priorities of the TD group
Reviewing work of their team and ensuring good practices are in lines with Software standards
Help the studios adapt the existing pipeline and tools to their new approach and operating as the front-line support for artists
Work with the software department to initiate development of tools/workflows that are needed for the show
Remain in close contact with Software and will be expected to conform to R&D operational and coding standards. TDs will remain informed of larger FEV initiatives and included in general R&D department meetings and presentations and align with Software on key projects
Be part of the team that reviews and approves review the Blueprint when presented by the show CG Supervisor, working closely with them if any changes are required
Qualifications
Experience:
Years of proven leadership and management experience in a leading VFX company or associated industry
Attributes:
Excellent analytical problem solving skills – you have the ability to look at a problem, break it down and deliver solutions. Desire to learn from others and to take on increasingly challenging work.
Excellent communication skills – you need to relay your knowledge across the pipeline to ensure workflows follow your approved plan
Team player approach with the ability to take direction/feedback

Ability to successfully delegate and manage projects
Able to manage a time-sensitive workload with an urgent and extremely organized manner
Highly adaptable with the strong ability to work successfully under pressure
