Job Summary

Develops solutions to complex technical problems with in-depth knowledge of Design for Manufacturability .

Solutions require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

Networks with internal and external personnel outside own area of expertise.

Independently conducts Design Changes as part of Product or Process Improvement efforts. Receives minimal technical direction/review on broad scope or complex projects. Viewed as an expert in two or more functional areas: R&D, Design Control, Process Improvement, Quality Engineering, Project Management

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Fixturing and product design to include testing of prototypes and supports internal and external feedback regarding concepts including user evaluation of preliminary prototypes.
• Use rapid prototyping methods to quickly generate design concepts
• Evaluates the design’s overall effectiveness, cost, reliability and safety
• Creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of material
• Drafting to Stryker and GD&T standards (Good experience required in dFMEA, DFM, GD&T, Tolerance Stack-up.)
• Manage multifunctional projects both short term and long term
• Knowledge of manufacturing process, engineering change process, Design Verification and Validation, Design and Risk Management documents.
• Understands cross-functional roles & responsibilities as outlined by the Quality System and achieves communal goals of R&D projects
• Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability
• Takes initiative to reach out to external expertise (team, function, division, company) to resolve technical issues.
• Works closely and collaboratively with other sites of the development team in a fast-paced team environment

• Drives design changes on commercial products to improve performance, safety, compliance or cost. Changes include materials changes, compliance to new testing standards, improvement to product to address complaints, implementing new test methods, supporting process improvement efforts or managing product line extensions.
• Will determine the testing required for design changes and will manage the execution. Assesses the patient risk appropriately for each design change.
• Will oversee product testing for design verification, design validation, shelf life, engineering studies and equivalency. Drafts protocols and reports as needed.
• Coordinate cross-functionally to implement design changes with Regulatory, Quality Assurance, Production, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
• Will understand how product will be implemented into Production.
• Will Interface with physicians or Cath Lab personnel to investigate product complaints and obtain feedback on performance of devices. Will investigate root cause of performance issues with complaints lab and manufacturing as needed.
• Supports Regulatory filings by providing expert technical input and responding to questions from Regulatory agencies.
• Provides guidance to product and technology teams.
• Coordinates and documents project goals and progress and recommends appropriate revisions.
• Demonstrates knowledge of internal product and/or technology development processes through coaching and delivery of high quality, high impact deliverables.
• Build Quality into all aspects of their work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements.
