Job Purpose/Summary
The Database Specialist (DBS)/ Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies. The resource ensures that the company’s transaction processing and application database systems have the highest availability and performance. This position is responsible for quick, decisive action when responding to incidents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform day to day operational management and administration of existing MSSQL databases and Servers
Interface with existing IT departments to ensure OLTP ATM switches are online, available and performing optimally with a 99.9999% required uptime
Proactively monitor the enterprise database systems to ensure secure, reliable service with minimum downtime
Perform day to day backup management as well as file management of MSSQL databases
Availability for 24/7 on call support.
Monitor, evaluate, tune and optimize MSSQL databases and Servers
Work with the Application Development team to ensure code is performant on databases, table structures are well designed and index performance is considered
Manage and maintain database Security; including Active Directory and MSSQL role based security models
Responsible for implementation all changes to the Production environment and ensure proper Change Management policies are followed
Research and implement Windows/SQL patches and Service Packs
Documentation of all SQL Servers and Databases within the Enterprise
Ensure resolutions to issues are completed rather than repetitive repairs

Relevant IT related training/certifications (MCDBA, etc.)
Experience
2 to 8 years of progressive experience as a MSSQL DBS in OLTP/OLAP
Experience in monitoring, maintaining and supporting highly available MSSQL databases
Experience in MSSQL Built-in tools such as SQL Profiler, SQL Database Tuning Advisor, Query Execution Plan, etc. as well as third party tools; Quest Spotlight/Foglight
Experience in creating and maintaining SQL Agent Jobs and Maintenance Plans
Experience in adhering to a Change Management process
Experience maintaining multiple environments, Production, Staging, Quality Assurance, Development, etc.
Experience in implementing Windows/SQL patches.
Experience solving complex support issues within SQL Server and Databases.
Knowledge on SAN technologies, I/O subsystems
Experience installing and configuring MSSQL Servers
Knowledge on SSIS and SSRS development preferred
Experience in a Financial based transaction processing environments such as Banking, Payments, etc. preferred
Experience in Database high availability technologies preferred
PCI, PHI, HIPPA experience preferred
