Main Job Tasks
PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE CARE TO ASSIGNED PATIENTS.
1. Takes the nursing history, summarizes data, and states nursing diagnoses/ patient care needs.
2. Observes and records signs, symptoms, and behaviours, including the physiological status of patients; reports assessment changes, to the concerned authority.
3. Follows policy and delivers designated nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with the stated medical plan of care.
4. Performs admission, discharge and transfer procedures, and assists others with patient’s activities and care.
5. Executes physician’s orders for all assigned patients; safely and properly administers medications and treatments.
6. To be responsible for collection of specimens when required, ensuring correct labelling.
7. To be responsible for preparing assigned patients for programmed medical procedures.
8. To participate in specialist’s rounds and assist by giving relevant information as regards to nursing observations made on the residents.
9. To supervise the cleanliness of assigned area or the ward.
10. Carry out routine check at each handover that all equipment’s are in working order.
11. To ensure that all items used for residents inclusive of medications, surgical supplies are duly recorded and charged.
12. To carry out inventory on surgical items and equipment for each week.
13. Maintain residents’ safety by taking preventive measures against accidents.
14. Accurately records and reports incidents.
15. To carry out treatments as required as per policy and procedure.
16. To assist the Charge Nurse in the effective management of the patient Unit.
17. Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member and team leader.
18. Demonstrate the ability to assist physicians with speciality appropriate procedures
19. Competently, professionally, and consistently completes accurate, concise, and legible documentation of hospital records.
20. Practices cost containment for the practice and patient.
21. Ensures that policies set up by the hospital are adhered to i.e. Nursing Procedures, Infection Control, Drug Policy and Health and Safety.
22. To check narcotics and controlled drugs, emergency trolley, portable oxygen each shift.
23. Take appropriate action if safe standards are not practiced by team members.
24. In context of individual’s own knowledge and experience, assist Staff Nurse to develop professional competence in accordance with their needs.
25. Actively participate in the in-service education.
Special responsibilities:
1. Provide nursing care for patients undergoing surgery.
2. Assist surgeons in major or minor operations.
3. Maintain standards of nursing care in pre-operative and post-operative planning, implementation and patient care.
4. Adheres to surgical safety checklist and safe surgical practices
5. Follow procedure prospectus for all surgeries
6. Prepare the operating room for all emergency and scheduled procedures according to the surgeon.
7. Keep principles of aseptic techniques in performing surgical scrub, setting instruments, gowning, gloving as needed for the procedure.
8. Assist as a circulatory or scrub nurse.
9. Monitor and report all vital signs of patient.
10. Administer oxygen therapy and suctions of secretions if required for post-operative patients in the recovery room
11. Report any untoward reactions of patient to the surgeon or anesthesiologist.
12. Carry out all the doctors’ order and directions.
13. Give all psychological support to the patient and family.
14. Delay and lond procedures status updating to the family.
15. Liaison with technician for up keep of equipment’s.
16. Be responsible for instrument sterilization and maintenance.
17. Patient receiving and handing over protocols to be adhered.
18. Checking expiry items once in a week.
