Role: International Logistics Specialist
Responsibilities:
International Shipping Coordination: Arrange and coordinate international shipments, including air, ocean, and land transportation, to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
Customs Compliance: Ensure adherence to customs regulations, import/export laws, and trade compliance requirements for each country. Prepare and submit necessary documentation, such as commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations.
Freight Forwarding: Collaborate with freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to negotiate rates, track shipments, and resolve any transportation-related issues.
Supply Chain Visibility: Maintain visibility and tracking of shipments throughout the logistics process. Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders and customers regarding the status of shipments.
Documentation Management: Manage and organize shipping documents, such as bills of lading, certificates of origin, and export licenses. Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with documentation requirements.
Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities to optimize logistics costs, such as negotiating favorable shipping rates, consolidating shipments, and selecting the most cost-effective transportation modes.
Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks associated with international logistics, such as delays, customs issues, and regulatory changes. Implement contingency plans when necessary.
Vendor Management: Build and maintain relationships with logistics service providers, including carriers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and warehouse operators.
Continuous Improvement: Identify process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the international logistics function. Implement best practices to streamline operations and enhance customer satisfaction.
Compliance and Regulations: Stay updated on international trade regulations, customs laws, and industry trends. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and advise internal stakeholders on any changes that may impact international logistics operations.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field (preferred)
Proven experience in international logistics, freight forwarding, or related roles
In-depth knowledge of international shipping practices, customs regulations, and trade compliance
Familiarity with transportation modes (air, ocean, land) and related documentation
Strong understanding of Incoterms and their implications in global logistics
Proficient in using logistics software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and customs authorities
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
Knowledge of a foreign language(s) is an advantage, particularly those commonly used in international trade
