Your Role and Responsibilities
Network Engineers are the backbone of our strategic initiatives . Whether you are working on projects internally or for a client, network engineering is critical to the success of IBM and our clients worldwide. Your Role and Responsibilities:
The Network Engineer will be a member on the Global Infrastructure Network Operate quad. This person will be responsible for network operations and infrastructure services regionally and globally. As a part of the Network Team, the candidate’s responsibilities will include day to day tickets and support, participation in on-call rotation, and documentation.
This environment includes, but is not limited to: Cisco routers, Cisco IOS switches, Cisco Nexus line, Cisco ASA firewalls, Vyatta Firewalls.
Responsibilities:
Investigating faults in the Network components through proactive and reactive monitoring.
Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting.
Monitor Up/Down status of Links on the Routers/Switches, and identify the first level problem area.
Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
Perform problem determination on Switches/ Routers components.
Perform triage or first level problem determination for alerts as per job documentation.
Monitoring event management tool and ticketing tool for any events and route them to respective resolver groups as per instructions.
Making call out to resolver groups for high priority incidents.
Following escalation matrix as per necessity.
Make sure communicating to the resolver groups within time, Thus following Standard level agreement (SLA’s) guidelines.
Monitor managed hardware & software during in-scope service hours
Administer and/or execute the contracted Service Management processes and procedures
Perform basic problem determination on systems and components managed
Provide information for changes affecting the server environment
Evaluate planned changes to the server environment and advise of any requirements to support such changes
Monitor Up/Down status of system processes.
Monitor and respond to system alerts and events
Monitor and respond to hardware alerts and events
Monitor and maintain system error logs
Take the appropriate, predefined recovery actions for the various operational events like firewall issues, interfaces, switches, routers, critical links.
Record and routing problems to appropriate support groups
Provide operational status as required.
Provide expertise assistance to SMEs / Tech Leads.
Coordinate with vendor/customer teams as per process.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Continuous improvement of Service Management, including Change, Incident, and Problem Management responsibilities,
Workload analysis with the discovery of new productivity opportunities within the team,
Response to both identify and address reliability risks, including automatic problem detection and mitigation,
Overlook the service from a quality perspective,
Creating, implementing, and sharing best practices,
Engage with support teams to fix fundamental production issues and carry forward action items to improve ongoing reliability,
Documenting any changes in process documentation as required.
Tracking high priority incidents (open) or follow ups required as per the shift.
Ensuring Business as usual go seamless for the shift.
Ensuring all communications are sent out on time without any issues.
First point of contact for that particular shift in case of any challenges or uncertainty among the process.
Ensuring process gaps and communication gaps don’t occur.
Engaging necessary stakeholders in case of high impact scenarios.
Ensuring SLA’s are maintained throughout the shift
Development of effective automation solutions and end to end responsibility for event entire lifecycle.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Have the strong knowledge on Networking skills.
Operational and implementation knowledge in ITIL.
CCNA certification – Preferred
Experience in handling network operations for multiple vendors.
Excellent verbal and written skills along with impressive email etiquette.
Flexibility in shift rotation and adaptability to handle crisis situation to support 24/7.
