The Global Banking Multinationals business in South India is a USD 100 million plus business across the client base in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad serving over 150+ global relationships of the bank across more than 350 legal entities.

We are currently seeking an Analyst / Associate to support the Relationship Management team in Chennai.

About the market: Chennai is a market characterized by a mix of Multinationals subsidiaries and Large local corporates and forms a very important industrial hub of Southern India accounting for a large number of automobile manufacturing companies, ancillaries and component suppliers, industrial automation and IT and ITES companies, shared service centres to name a few. This is a market that has a good mix of a number of Korean, German, French, Japanese who have set up shop to benefit from industrial grants given to them. A few of our core Global Banking names like Daimler, Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Renault Nissan, FL Schmidt, Hyundai have well set up subsidiaries in this city. Besides the dominant cult of these companies, there are important Large Local Corporates like the TVS Group and Murugappa Group which are GRB’ed names and have a large number of group companies within the Mastergroup who are significant clients of the Bank. Thus these are in addition to large and complex MNC relationships. Owing to such a large presence this market is transaction banking and credit heavy which requires concurrent relationship support on the ground. We have a full-fledged branch presence in the city and offer the entire array of corporate banking services to our esteemed clients. The Global Banking representation on the ground comprises of two personnel – the Relationship Manager and the incumbent associate who supports the RM. The GB portfolio covered by this location includes 40 client mastergroups and over 100 legal entities and c.USD 21M of revenue across the portfolio.

Given the size of the portfolio, complexity of engagements and sensitivity of the global relationships, it is imperative that we are able to have a replacement hire. The current team of two people (including the incumbent who has resigned) in any event is stretched in executing their responsibilities – it’s imperative that we continue to provide our top of the line service to our global banking clients such that we continue to maintain and grow our share of the wallet in this important region; this would be possible only if, we at the earliest, fill up this headcount with a replacement such that there is no break in continuity of services.

Principal Responsibilities

• To support the RM in developing and managing the client relationships. For strong existing relationships this includes maintenance and penetration, for relatively newer relationship this includes support in business development efforts
• To provide back-up to the frontline RMs in their absence such that all client facing activities can be managed
• To provide support to clients for day-to-day transaction management over and above what is in the purview of GLCM, GTRF teams
• To work with the RMs and product teams towards formulating and delivering client strategy. Working with RRM / GRB teams and assist the RMs to ensure that local business strategy is aligned to global strategies on respective clients
• To work with RM and CAU teams to present cases to portfolio management for CAC / sub-CAC approvals and if need be run with this independently in case of RM’s absence
• To work with RM to prepare and present cases which need ASP or Global CBRRCSC approvals
• To work with CAU team and RMs to ensure that credit requirements of clients are promptly met (subject to risk approvals and related framework)
• To monitor related MISes and ensure that the portfolio remains disciplined and clients compliant in matters of documentation, covenant compliance, other credit exceptions, daily excess management and sanctions compliance.
• To work with Credit Services in ensuring timely issuance, execution and perfection of client documentation
• To work with FCC, LGA and if need be product teams to manage client negotiation on all credit related documentation
• To ensure that the clients and our interactions with them are in compliance with the existing regulatory guidelines. To support product / process / system rollouts related to any regulatory changes introduced by the regulators from time to time
• To Build the Global Banking franchise value and reputation by ensuring that all responsibilties are executed flawlessly and HSBC promise delivered to the client in a timely, professional and cost efficient manner

• Self driven individual with ability to multi-task and manage time exceedingly well
• High levels of integrity in client dealing
• Robust knowledge / strong inclination to learn – bank systems, processes, key local regulations, product offering of HSBC, documentation
• Primary understanding of credit risk
• Good communication and networking skills
• Good Analytical and reasoning skills

Educational Qualifications / Certification and Requirements:

Education background in Finance preferred. A post graduate degree / diploma is a pre-requisite

A 2-3 year work experience in client facing role preferred.
