The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work as part of a growing and dynamic specialist practice with a diverse team of highly successful tax and science/engineering/technology specialists. Serving a variety of blue chip and very high-profile clients, we support companies in claiming innovation incentives, which were introduced by the government to encourage Irish companies to invest in innovation and stimulate economic growth. With the R&D tax space rapidly growing in consequence to increased investment by companies in digital, this role offers an exciting opportunity for highly motivated individuals with a background in IT and Software Engineering to join EY’s fast growing and highly successful R&D Tax team.
You will be required to work closely with our client’s C-suite executives, technologists and engineers across a diverse range of sectors, such as technology, social networking, telecommunication, cloud computing, financial services, software product development and so much more. Your role will involve being responsible for critically analysing the scientific and technological aspects of a client’s R&D project. You will play an active role in client discussion and creation of technical deliverables for our clients’. You will collaborate with your team in Ireland to deliver R&D tax claims for clients and will be offered the opportunity to work with the EY’s global R&D network to deliver multi jurisdiction projects aligned to the global nature of the IT/software sector.

What we do
We are a dedicated and highly specialised team focusing on assisting clients maximise their R&D tax claims.
A multi-disciplinary team made up of IT/software engineers, scientists, industry specialists and tax professionals.
We are principally an Ireland-based team with colleagues in the EY Global Delivery Service (GDS) hub in Bangalore. We are looking to further build out our Bangalore capability.
We offer a tailored approach to our clients which aim to assist with identifying which of their IT/technology projects are eligible for tax relief and how the activities they’ve undertaken meet R&D definition for tax purposes as set out by Irish revenue.
Produce high quality technical deliverable that provide insights into the projects claimed and highlight the key technical elements needed to substantiate the R&D tax claim.

Responsibilities
Leading or working as an effective member of a project team, to Interview the clients’ senior technical and engineering staff in order to develop an understanding of the technical characteristics of the projects undertaken
Facilitate application of Irish Revenue’s guidelines to identify which R&D projects or aspects of projects are eligible for tax relief
Writing technical project reports describing the technological objectives, advancements and uncertainties of the clients projects, to support the R&D tax claim
Ability to provide practical approaches and solutions to situations and apply critical thinking to ensure the delivery of the project work products
Working with the EY R&D global network to deliver multi jurisdiction projects aligned to the global nature of the IT/technology sector
Responsible for high-quality delivery of advice and solutions to major clients, ensuring management of risk and reputation
Supporting in the successful delivery of technically complex and demanding consulting projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach taken
Building and maintaining relationships with clients to provide high levels of client service
Maintaining up to date technical and tax technical knowledge

Your skills and attributes
You have excellent spoken and written formal business English, communicating clearly and concisely in phone calls and via email
Previous R&D tax knowledge is NOT required for this role although this would be highly advantageous
Relevant qualifications in the specific area of expertise required. For example, degree or master’s in software engineering/computer science/electronic engineering with embedded programming
Ideally, you will have hands on experience in the IT, technology, data and software sectors
In-depth technical expertise in your discipline and understanding the commercial/technical issues faced in the technology sector
You have experience in dealing with technological challenges faced by IT professionals during the design, development, implementation and testing of IT/software solutions
Ability to assist in defending technical aspects of R&D tax claims (previous R&D tax experience is not a necessity; this is something that the successful candidate will learn on the job)
Ability to identify and manage areas of risk, know when to refer upwards, demonstrate good judgement, objectivity and independence
Strong client relationship management skills with the ability to understand client’s needs and deliver quality outputs to clients
Strong communication and project management skills, with the ability to work in a team based and consultancy environment
Have excellent technical report writing, interpersonal, communication, interviewing skills and presenting ability
You must feel comfortable discussing technical themes with clients in a personable and professional manner.
A keen desire to adapt and flex existing knowledge to different engineering sectors and build on the core capabilities
You have the ability to swiftly adapt to and learn about different technologies utilised by our clients, such as: Hadoop/Spark, Docker, cloud technologies, database engineering, database technologies, programming languages (such as .NET, JSON, SQL, Python, Java, Perl, C++, JavaScript, Objective-C, Ruby, C, Haskell, R, Scala, GoLang etc), Big Data Processing (Lambda architecture), scripting languages, as well as web and mobile technologies
You interact readily with other technical professionals, have outstanding interpersonal skills and excel in eloquence and concise summary of information
Strong attention to detail and first-time accuracy is essential
You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
