Full Job DescriptionPosition Overview:
The Business Intelligence Engineer will be responsible for the back-end design, implementation & support of our business intelligence solutions, working closely with corporate technology (IT), business users, product development, product strategy, and data analysts, and supporting the ongoing development of enterprise-wide BI platform. This position will be involved in various complex business intelligence projects, extracting and transferring data from internal and external sources, transforming and loading data into endpoint data lake and BI warehouse, automating the ETL processes, preparing data for analysis, cataloging and curating data for master data management.
Responsibilities:
Work with business stakeholders and corporate technology (IT) to identify and verify the sources of truth, plan and implement data integrations, extracts, transformations and load into the endpoint data lake, automate the processes
Manage the back-end technologies and processes for the endpoint Business Intelligence, such as database schemas and tables, scripts, and other tools and software
Ensure timeliness of data and that collected data is within required quality standards, actively track data quality issues, propose mitigations, and document data proxies
Design and implement scripts and tables for fast performance, work with corporate technology (IT) to tune the databases for optimal usage
Perform data and usage analysis to inform the management of the effectiveness of BI
Lead data aggregation strategy for reporting, dashboards, and self-service analytics
Catalog, curate and document data sources and data points, manage master data dictionary
Audit data sources, understand data dependencies, identify data gaps, and propose system changes
Investigate and resolve data issues that cause variances and anomalies in expected results
Support business users by providing ad-hoc queries and visualizations when needed
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or related technical field
Experience:
2-4 years of technical experience in any of these areas: software engineering, integrations, data warehousing, data analysis, business intelligence, preferably at a technology or biotech/pharma company
Excellent experience in database and ETL tools, preferably in Microsoft Azure (Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Data Lake Storage, etc.) proven experience in relational database and data warehousing
Advanced experience in API and data integrations
Experience with a common data science language such as Python or R
Working knowledge of data visualization tools, preferably Power BI and Power BI Embedded
Skills:
Keen attention to detail and bias for action
Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to multi-task
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with a wide variety of professionals
Ability to lead back-end data BI initiatives – identify data sources, write scripts, transfer and transform data, automate processes
Ability to understand source data, its strengths, weaknesses, semantics and formats
Solid knowledge of logical and physical data modeling concepts (relational and dimensional)
