A homeopath is considered to be a healer. This healer is based in alternative medicine, specifically whereby they search for and use alternative methods and techniques for healing patients. Homeopaths work by understanding the patient’s medical history and any symptoms so that they may properly treat them using natural and holistic types of practices. A homeopath must be well-versed at different alternative healing practices because they will either prescribe them or perform them on their own.
A homeopath works very much in the same way as a traditional physician in terms of overall responsibilities. Homeopaths meet with patients to perform initial consultations, gathering various information from the patient that will be used toward their diagnosis. Many of the responsibilities of a homeopath focus on explaining to the patient what sorts of healing practices may be used and helping the patient to understand this less-traditional form of healing and medicine. As homeopaths work through the information gathering and begins to develop a diagnosis, they must think of different healing techniques that will bring the patient to better health.
It is important to note that homeopaths may not call themselves a “homeopathic doctor” unless they have an actual medical license. If they do have that license, they may provide a broader range of healing techniques and even prescribe medicines, though the practice of homeopathy is really more focused on natural healing, such as acupuncture, reiki, and herb therapy to help patients heal in a more natural and healthy manner. This means that homeopaths must understand how all of these techniques work so that they may suggest them as part of a treatment plan, or so that they may even administer them on their own.
Homeopaths must conduct a great deal of research as part of their job. They must keep up with trends in the industry, new herbs, and new healing techniques that may be used for their patients. They often handle physical exams with their patients, particularly when they come in for a specific ailment. Homeopaths may also handle any follow up visits, perform the necessary services, or work in conjunction with another holistic healer that specializes in a certain area. A homeopath is more of a general practitioner within the holistic medicine world and looks at the whole person to understand the mental, emotional, and physical state, and how these may all relate to and cause disruptions in any of the patient’s problem areas.
