The various Fire Protection Engineering tasks demand detail-oriented individuals with multi-faceted skills, particularly in-depth technical expertise, flexibility, enthusiasm for individual and team tasks, and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams and provide expertise in some of the most vital aspects of a project: plant equipment, piping, control systems, regulatory compliance, and life safety.
Typical Activities of the Fire Protection Engineering Team
selecting and specifying equipment
preparing detailed system piping and instrumentation diagrams
performing system and equipment sizing calculations
establishing facility design requirements and developing the system safety basis
providing consulting and code interpretations to interfacing disciplines
supporting the development and/or maintenance of fire hazards analyses or fire protection design analyses
reviewing supplier and subcontractor designs and installations
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from an accredited college or university within twelve (12) months of graduation date
Ability and willingness to relocate and/or travel to domestic and/or international project jobsites
Possess the ability to work and remain in the US without visa sponsorship, now or in the future
Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering from an accredited college or university within twelve (12) months of graduation date
Experience with fire modeling using CFAST
Knowledge of life safety and building codes, including NFPA, UL, and FM standards
EIT/FE certification in Fire Protection Engineering
Completed relevant coursework with a strong GPA
Prior co-op or internship experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
