The BBC World Service delivers a multi-platform news service in English and over 40 languages to hundreds of millions around the world on digital, TV and audio platforms. Within World Service, Business Development is responsible for securing, managing and developing the external media partnerships which deliver the majority of the BBC’s audience reach around the world.
BBC World Service Business Development is looking for a Senior Business Development Manager to drive audience growth in India. We need an experienced media professional to oversee business development. The person should identify new opportunities through distribution partnerships in major Indian languages including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali, Urdu and English. You should be a skilled leader who will manage both Broadcast and Digital partnerships, with a focus on building audience engagement, reach and income.
The Senior Business Development Manager will work alongside editorial, product, audience, marketing and legal colleagues. This position reports into and works closely day to day with the Head of Business Development, Asia & the Pacific Region.
Main Responsibilities
As Senior Business Development Manager you will lead business development activity across India and manage a team of local BD representatives based in the country. You will be a senior representative of the BBC World Service for key partners in India and will be responsible for creating and delivering the agreed Business Development plan for the market.
Some of the key responsibilities for this role include:
Help build and enable the success of Business Development Plans for BBC World Service
To ensure deep knowledge of market developments and media habits in India and inform decisions within WS Business Development
Deliver varied and business critical projects working with senior stakeholders
Writing and presenting business cases at the Business Development Committee and other boards as required
Securing and managing agreements with third parties and the BBC’s key partners to ensure current and future distribution needs are met
Leading contract negotiations, identifying areas of opportunity and risk for the BBC, seeking and acting on legal, fair trading and ed pol advice as required
Monitor partner performance against BBC requirements, proposing corrective action and providing appropriate communications to audiences and stakeholders
A key contributor to development of World Service strategy across broadcast and IP, and an authoritative source of media market knowledge

Are you the right candidate?
The critical experience we need is a proven track record of delivering content distribution partnerships on Broadcast and Digital platforms in India. It would be necessary to have a very good understanding of the media sector and relevant in-depth knowledge of current industry trends and issues relating to news and current affairs. You should demonstrate excellent influencing and diplomatic skills, able to build trusting, productive relationships with senior level contacts inside and outside the organisation. You must be able to work on own initiative, under pressure and to tight deadlines, with a creative approach to problem solving with excellent written and oral communication skills.
