Introduction:
To translate business requirements into technical requirements, identifying any gaps
To write code to specification for one or more applications / products during the build phase of the software development lifecycle
To test the code thoroughly and liaise with business users to ensure delivery is fit for purpose
To develop a technical understanding of a component or sub-component within an application / product, providing support for technical queries, live incidents and problems
To ensure that the technical integrity and quality of the applications / products is maintained across their lifetime, contributing to the development of any technical changes being proposed
To work on a single complex project, or multiple standard projects, as a team member or team leader
What will you be doing?
Technical Consultancy (5%)
Review Technical Feasibility Studies (TFS) for projects that impact applications / products within domain.
Review Advice and Guidance (A&G) documents and project Plan and Estimates (P&Es) that impact applications / products within domain.
Apply new tools, processes and technical developments to drive continuous improvement throughout the software development lifecycle.
Requirements Gathering (10%)
Review business requirements to understand how system requirements fit within overall business solution. Challenge any requirements that are incomplete or do not provide sufficient clarity to support effective software development.
Review requirements to understand how both functional and non-functional aspects (e.g. capacity, availability, response times, etc.) need to be met.
Review requirements to understand how they will be tested following production of code.
Technical Development (Design, Build, Unit Test) (60%)
Review end-to-end system technical designs to understand impact on applications / products within domain.
Review any changes to end-to-end system designs to determine impact on applications / products within domain.
Understand the various phases of the software development lifecycle.
Review component designs to build knowledge and understand how these fit within an end-to-end system design.
Collaborate with other developers to build technical solution.
Deliver to all software engineering quality standards / benchmarks.
Complete assignment work to budget, time and quality requirements. Document all work in accordance with agreed standards, and with re-use in mind.
Application Management (10%)
Participate in technical implementation planning, ensuring that the integrity of live operations will be maintained.
Produce information and education relating to the system technology and function for the relevant IT service teams.
Assist in the resolution of live incidents and system problems as and when required.
Project Management (5%)
Assist in the identification, management and resolution of any software-related Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies (RAIDs).
Track work and report progress to team leader on a timely basis.
Team Leadership and Staff Development (10%)
Learn about emerging software development methods, tools and standards.
Identify own development needs and seek opportunities to address these needs through guidance, coaching and formal training.

Technical Knowledge
Maintaining an in-depth understanding of relevant and up to date technical knowledge, applications and techniques

End-to-end software development lifecycle
Software development methodologies, e.g. waterfall, agile
Awareness of leading-edge tools, techniques and services within IT
Software development consisting of some of the following languages and technologies:
iOS
Android
JavaScript
Adobe Experience Manager
Java
IVR
Base 24
Test Automation
Good level of experience of IT software development (essential)
Financial services (preferred)
Large-scale blue-chip organisations such as Barclays (preferred)
BSc degree in relevant software engineering discipline, equivalent to UK 2nd class honours (preferred)
Formal qualification in area of specialism, e.g. Sun Java certification (beneficial)
Skills that will help you in the role:
Spring, Java & Data structure
Strong reporting and communication skills
Working on a number of tasks on a variety of different projects at the same time.
Ability to build effective internal relationships
Participate in project go live and post go live support activities.
