KEY RESPONSIBLE AREAS
AREA OF EXPERTISE/ SKILLS
Opening and closing the lab according to the schedule and ensuring a clean, quiet and secure work environment
Offer guidance to the people reporting in the laboratory
Provide instructions to all lab users regarding the proper usage of the equipment
Consult superiors on more difficult issues
Ensure proper care and maintenance of the equipment installed in the laboratory
Take care that no food and beverage are consumed in the close proximity of the computers
Monitor files and programmes that are being downloaded to the computers so as to be sure that the programme is free from malware and spyware
Diagnose hardware problems and resolve these issues with the appropriate engineer
Files all reports required by the employer
Conduct regular maintenance in the laboratory
Performs regular software backups
Support computer lab and IT operations
Support faculty and students to use computer software and hardware
Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books
Immediate reporting about any damage or malfunction of equipment to the HOD. This will ensure minimal downtime of the computer laboratory
Monitoring and repairing hardware issues or informing the IT technician, so they can be resolved
Enforcing policies and procedures of the computer lab, tracking computer and supplies usage, and making recommendations for improving the overall performance of the computer labs
Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
Ability to operate tools, components and peripheral accessories
Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
Understanding of the organisation’s goals and objectives
