The APAC Medical Director will work on the Health Services team in Colleague Total Rewards and Well-being (CTRW). As a key team member of Health Services, this person will be responsible for the overall well-being across the region and leading the strategy for the award-wining, best in class Colleague Experience Group (HR) programs, creating a culture of health for colleagues and their families at American Express. From collaborating across markets to build a strong disability and workplace accommodation program, to improving the health and productivity of our colleagues, this role is critical in reinforcing American Express’ culture and values.

The APAC Medical Director will also provide leadership and vision to the clinical strategy for the company’s onsite Wellness Centers, regional health resources across our Asia Pacific markets, Business Continuity (BCP) support and provide guidance for the safe reopening of our offices.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership on the company’s total well-being initiatives across APAC, including, but not limited to:

Onsite wellness centers

Covid-19 and return to office strategies

Manage population health

Collaborate on regional mental health strategy

Identify & mitigate occupational health & safety risks

Work directly across the region to design, implement, execute and evaluate programs in support of our wellbeing strategy

Identify population health trends and priorities

Provide clinical insight on the design of our colleague health and well-being programs

Develop key metrics & dashboards to manage impact of health initiatives

Work with external consultants and service providers to design and manage health initiatives

Work directly with Workplace Safety across the region to manage workplace injuries and ergonomic adjustments. This will also include partnering across the Colleague Experience Group (HR) to provide guidance for workplace accommodations, while developing a regional strategy to improve local governance / oversight and deploying health and workplace safety initiatives

Medical leaves & disability management

Provide medical subject matter expertise to inform Health plan design & population health and collaborate with APAC C&B teams to optimize the effectiveness of our health plans

Work directly with enterprise Business Continuity Planning (BCP), Crisis Response Teams (CRT), and Crisis Management Teams (CMT) across the region to provide strategic leadership and guidance to managing communicable diseases, pandemic response, and various scenarios to support Colleagues and maintaining business operations.

Work with local Country Executive Teams (CET) to support well-being initiatives and business continuity planning.

Represent the Company / provide input for discussions with Works Councils on health-related matters

Liaise with medical leaders in each market to ensure our occupational health & safety practices are complaint with government regulations and leading-edge. Provide support and guidance to key stakeholders in the instance of medical emergencies.

Health services Nurse

The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of healthcare experience. The candidate will have begun his/her career in the acquisition of pedigreed medical skills, not only from an educational standpoint, but also in the practice and delivery of care. The candidate will have broad healthcare experience, having worked across multiple country landscapes in a complex environment, focused on improving the health of employees. This may have occurred as managed care or occupational medicine Medical Director in an actuarial or consulting environment with experience working.

In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following:

A Medical Degree with post graduate training and Board Certification in Occupational Medicine and/or in Internal Medicine, Family Practice

An advanced degree in business or public health

Must meet requirements for medical licensure in India; ability for additional licensure across APAC is a positive

Strong experience working across various corporate functions, managing stakeholders, and delivering health strategies while balancing the complex objectives of the enterprise. Working knowledge of Works Council / union consultation desirable

Demonstrated ability to lead and direct an organization through various health challenges (e.g. epidemics, communicable diseases)

Demonstrated experience with managing health vendors through data-driven decisions

Demonstrated success in articulating, evaluating and reporting goals and achievements, areas of improvement and measuring returns on investments

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong relationships and work effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization

Excellent communicator, with written, verbal and presentation skills that can be tailored to multiple audiences

Strong quantitative skills with an aptitude for information technology and innovation

Ability to travel nationally and internationally
