Your Role and Responsibilities
About zPDT – System z Personal Development Tool is a software emulation product that provides one or more System z processors (with several emulated I/O device types) on intel architecture. It emulates a System z machine on an Intel-compatible PC running Linux. It is intended for development, test and education and demonstrations. It is not intended for production use.
This position is for zPDT Development and Integration Test Engineer who validates emulation of zSeries Hardware features on an Intel Architecture. The candidate will be part of a worldwide team to execute quality assurance activities for software products, including the design and development of test automation and test execution. Responsible for testing zPDT features using IBM system test tools and workloads in a Linux environment. Collaborate with Engineering System Test and Architecture verification teams to execute the test buckets and workloads. Should have good experience in Shell scripting, Python, Jenkins, Ansible. Hands-on experience in Linux installation, filesystem, Networking and Linux Virtual machine administration. Should have interest in automation of test suits, creating and maintaining VMs on Linux server, debugging, and problem determination. Prior experience working on open-source projects will be desirable. We follow Agile practices where work and design are open and collaborative, and also where individuals are expected to operate with a level of autonomy and responsibility.
In this role, the candidate shall have opportunity to continually grow skills in the Automation, Integration test, scripting, apply open-source technologies, and work & lead in a supportive and collaborative environment. We are looking for Test Engineers who will learn and understand the ecosystem, enjoy working in a challenging, fast paced, highly collaborative environment.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Overall, 5-10 years of IT experience
4+ years of experience with the Linux installations (Ubuntu, SLES, RHEL), KVM hypervisor, Linux filesystem, networking, Linux Virtual Machines and System administration.
4+ years of experience with executing System Test buckets, test processes and procedures, debugging, collection of dumps, logs, kernel crash analysis.
Scripting skills, Test automation experience using Shell scripting, Python, Ansible, Jenkins
Git/Gerrit working knowledge.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work in a cross functional, multicultural team.
Solid Analytical & problem solving, debugging skills – identify the root cause of issues
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Understanding and experience with multiple processor architectures (System s390 and X86)
Knowledge of zOS, zVM environment and testing programs on zOS
Knowledge of z/OS, z/VM, z/VSE, Linux on Z
Experience with Open-source development tools and projects
Knowledge of virtualization, networking, cloud & containers technologies
