Role Summary:
It’s not often you get this rare opportunity to transform the architecture of a product whilst embracing a very modern and exciting technology stack. You will be part of a new team of engineers in Bangalore to help develop the next generation of control plane that will be a part of our Firewall product as well as many others. This technology will sit on hardware, on-prem software and cloud. The control plane will embrace many new modern stack frameworks and technologies from closet to cloud and in a way that will revolutionize our products and delivery to our customers. What You Will Do:
As Principle engineer you will be working on our control plane and involved in all elements of design and implementation. It’s a great opportunity to build from scratch our next generation control plane which will be included in our Firewall and other products.
You will oversee a large number of elements as well as build it on cutting edge technology.
You will interact closely with many engineering teams both locally and across Sophos. This is a highly involved and visible, hands-on leadership position for a candidate with a passion for quality, security, technology and innovation.
This role will leverage a variety of skills including Linux system knowledge, networking, performance optimization, data modelling and containers/orchestration in the cloud.
What You Will Bring:
Essential:
10 to 18 yrs of total experience, with 1-2 years working as a technical lead / architect.
Technical leadership experience in design, implementation, and support of core front end, orchestration, and database services that are highly reliable, flexible, and scalable.
Deep knowledge of building appliances as well as cloud technologies
Extensive background in leading software engineers in design and code
Proven ability to earn respect, trust and influence from people you work with and to mentor top technical talent.
BS/MS/PhD in information technology, computer science or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
You can apply good judgment to the steepest software engineering challenges.
Experience with the current technology stack which includes C, Llinux, webservices, Python, AngularJS
Seasoned Golang programmer a big plus
Experience developing sound, secure remote API such as RESTful, OpenAPI and/or gRPC APIs
Strong container development understanding, practice and security
Knowledge of container orchestration such as Kubernetes(preferred) or Nomad
API development knowledge of Kubernetes
12 factor app development practitioner
Experience with data plane development or control plane development
Networking domain knowledge: TCP/UDP, Routing and Switching protocols
Working knowledge of Linux netfilter, network stack, connection tracking, Firewalling and NATing
Strong secure coding knowledge and practice
Desirable:
Cloud native technology stacks like Fluentd, Statsd, OPA, Etcd, Consul, pub/sub, autoscaling etc.
Deep knowledge of Linux kernel networking
Working knowledge of DPDK
Experience in high availability and clustering in network appliances
Experience with software/cyber security, firewall and security development is a big plus.
Experience with hardware appliance and software (virtual image) strongly desirable
Knowledge/experience working with AWS and/or Azure is strongly desirable.
Experience working with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Bamboo and building test automation into CI/CD pipelines
Experience working in an Agile Development environment
